WARNING ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 2:20 a.m. WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 4 2024
Snow Squall Warning in effect for:
- Belleville – Quinte West – Eastern Northumberland County
Snow squalls are expected. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate. Snow squalls expected late tonight and Wednesday.
Hazards: Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 10 to 20 cm. Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 5 cm per hour. Very poor visibility at times in heavy snow.
Timing: Late tonight through Wednesday night.
Discussion: Lake effect snow squalls over Lake Ontario are forecast to move inland tonight, affecting highway 401 during the morning commute. Snow squalls may move in and out of the area Wednesday evening before moving back south over the lake Wednesday night.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
