It’s been a long time in the works but a merger of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health with two other health units to the east is looking more and more likely.
Monday the provincial government announced it would approve the mergers of several public health units province-wide, including Hastings-Prince Edward, Leeds-Grenville and Lanark District, and Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington health units.
Yesterday the Kingston unit voted in favour of the merger and Hastings-Prince Edward’s Board of Health will vote on the merger today. Leeds Grenville’s board will vote tomorrow.
The merger is seen as improving cost effectiveness while at the same time providing more services to the public.
