A candlelight vigil was held on the rainbow steps leading to Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church in Brighton, a few days after it was vandalized.
A release from the United Church of Canada says that individuals spray-painted the steps, as well as the front doors, with grey paint.
The incident was said to have happened on November 24.
“It makes me sad to think there is so much fear out there,” said Jeanette Cournoyer, chair of the Trinity-St. Andrew’s Affirm and Equity Committee, in a release.
“It makes me realize that our work is not done, and we need to continue to offer a safe space to all people in the Brighton community.”
Work to clean up the paint was completed on November 26.
On Sunday, a congregation gathered to hold a candlelight vigil on those same rainbow steps.
Over 40 people attended, including Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander.
City officials and other members of regional councils also took part in the vigil.
