Snow Squall watch issued for Quinte region

The snow that has hit other parts of Ontario appears to be making its way to the Quinte Region.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall watch for the area with snow squalls possible Tuesday night and Wednesday.

As much as 20 cm accumulation is possible.

Snow Squall Watch in effect for:

Belleville – Quinte West – Eastern Northumberland County – Picton – Sandbanks Park – Napanee – Consecon

Snow squalls possible Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Hazards: Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations near 20 cm. Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 5 cm per hour. Very poor visibility at times in heavy snow.

Timing: Tuesday night through Wednesday night.

Discussion: Lake effect snow squalls over Lake Ontario could move inland overnight Tuesday and continue into Wednesday night.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
