On November 30, 2024 at approximately 12:15 p.m., an officer with the Kingston Police Community Response Unit was conducting patrol in the area of Palace Road and Bath Road when they observed a vehicle being operated by an individual known to be a suspended driver.
The officer stopped the vehicle and the driver quickly exited the vehicle despite being directed by the officer to remain inside.
The officer attempted to place the driver under arrest for driving while under suspension but the driver of the vehicle allegedly became combative and began resisting arrest by pushing and striking the officer.
At the same time, two other individuals in the vehicle fled.
The driver of the vehicle was controlled and arrested, while one of the passengers was found in a nearby business attempting to hide items in the washroom. Officers discovered a bag of crystal methamphetamine and a bag of fentanyl.
The passenger was arrested and a further search of their person revealed they were in possession of additional amounts of crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl.
During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a large machete, dog spray, four replica BB guns, two flare guns which appear to have been modified to fire ammunition, and 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
In total, officers seized approximately 24 grams of fentanyl, 29 grams of crystal methamphetamine, four replica handguns, two modified flare guns, two knives and 40 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old Kingston individual was charged with take motor vehicle without consent, resist arrest, assault a peace officer, possession of weapons dangerous to the public peace, careless storage of ammunition, five counts of possession of ammunition while prohibited and two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.
The passenger, a 26-year-old Kingston individual, was charged with obstruct police, breach of probation, possession of weapons dangerous to the public peace, careless storage of ammunition, two counts of possession of ammunition while prohibited and two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Both were remanded into custody.
Prior to this incident both the driver and the passenger had been placed on multiple lifetime firearms and ammunition bans as a result of previous convictions.
