Officers from the Peterborough County OPP attended a single-vehicle collision that led to the driver being charged with impaired.
On December 1, 2024 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Peterborough County OPP received a report of a vehicle that had gone off the road and rolled before coming to rest in the ditch off County Road 2.
Police arrived on scene to find a blue, four-door vehicle in the ditch on its roof.
The driver and a three-year-old passenger were being treated by the Fire department while the seven-year-old passenger was keeping warm in a passerby’s vehicle.
The three-year-old was transported to a local hospital for treatment but was later transported by ORNGE Air to a Toronto treatment facility for further care.
Officers spoke with the driver and after a brief conversation, the officer determined they were under the influence of alcohol.
The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD).
The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a fail, at which point they were arrested.
The 35-year-old driver of Peterborough, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation causing bodily harm
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment where they were held for bail.
County Road 2 remained closed for several hours while emergency crews dealt with the collision and members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.
