The Belleville Senators shut out the Bridgeport Islanders 2-0 on Saturday night.
Wyatt Bongiovanni and Zack MacEwen scored for the Senators, while Leevi Merilainen played a perfect game in net with 28 saves.
Neither team managed to score in the first period but the Senators opened scoring early in the second. In the third, the Senators grabbed one more goal, extending their lead before they took the win.
Belleville Senators head coach Dave Bell said that the team bounced back well after Wednesday’s loss.
“It was great. Obviously, any time you can shut a team out, it’s a great night,” said Coach Bell. “There were some really key moments in that game, Leevi was outstanding, the penalty kill was outstanding and a couple of timely goals.”
The Sens are back in action today, facing the Islanders at 3 p.m.
