An Oakville driver has been charged after a single vehicle collision in Tweed.
Central Hastings OPP came across a collision on Highway 7 just before 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Police say a vehicle left the roadway and struck several guard rail posts.
An investigation determined that the 53-year-old male driver, who was not identified by police, had fallen asleep.
He was charged with careless driving and his damaged vehicle was towed from the scene.
OPP provided the following reminders:
- Prioritize getting plenty of sleep daily
- Travel at times when you are normally more awake
- Keep eyes moving and scanning the roadway
- Take a break every two hours
- Keep hydrated
- Travel with an alert passenger (if possible) and take turns driving
- Avoid medications that cause drowsiness
- Don’t plan to work all day and then drive all night
