Long wait times at Belleville General Hospital’s (BGH) Emergency Department have been a major concern for a long time, not only for patients but for the staff as well.
Recently, staff had leaders from North York General’s Emergency Department visit BGH to offer advice. North York is well known for successful innovation in emergency department operations.
The consultation has worked. There have been improvements in wait times and patient flow.
Quinte Health’s Chief of Staff Dr. Colin MacPherson says the changes have improved staff morale.
“Been nice to feel as though you have some control, some power, and you’re not altogether helpless with the number of people who need help.”
It’s hoped wait times will further improve over the next few months.
