A jury has found Manitoba man Eric Wildman guilty of attempt murder and possession of a loaded restricted firearm after a gunshot incident involving the OPP on June 17 and 18 of 2021 on Massassauga Road in Prince Edward County.
Wildman, 34 at the time, was wanted by RCMP in Manitoba in a homicide investigation. OPP were tipped off that he might be in a home on Massassauga Road and when they entered the residence they were met by gunfire.
There were no injuries as OPP retreated, and after hours of negotiation, Wildman surrendered. A Glock handgun and bullets were located inside the residence.
Bullet holes were located in a wall next to the door where police had entered and investigation revealed the bullets had been fired by Wildman from the living room and that they were aimed at police. The bullets hit a cinder block wall preventing injury to officers.
Adam Zegouras was the Crown Attorney in the trial which had been ongoing in a Picton courtroom since November 12.
A sentencing date has not been set.
