The brand new Easthill Elementary School in Belleville celebrated its grand opening Thursday.
Among the speakers at the event was Bay of Quinte riding MPP Tyler Allsopp representing the province which paid 100 per cent of the almost $26 million cost of the school and YMCA Child Care Centre.
Allsopp told Quinte News he expects to make a couple of significant funding announcements in the next few weeks, adding he recently spoke to the Minister of Health regarding funding for The Bridge Integrated Services Hub which would provide services for the homeless and those with addiction/mental health issues.
“There’s a lot of applications but we’re in a very strong position and they’ve (provincial officials) come to the community before and viewed it multiple times so we’re right up there but we won’t know until it’s announced.”
A group of local partners specializing in mental health/addictions and other social services has applied to the province for over $6 million a year to operate The Bridge hub. Only 19 communities will be approved for funding for their vulnerable populations.
