Brighton councillor Byron Faretis passed away late Tuesday evening, after a short battle with cancer.
The flags at all Brighton municipal properties have been lowered to half mast in his honour.
While speaking to Quinte News, Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander said that Faretis was reliable, and that he could trust that he didn’t need to worry about any tasks he’d taken on.
“He took on things with vigour and verve, and he made sure they were finished right through to the end,” said Mayor Ostrander. “At the end of the day, this is just a good man and a terrible loss for our community and a true loss to his family.”
Councillor Faretis was serving his first term on council. Before becoming a municipal councillor he had spent 25 years in the food and beverage industry, followed by running his own graphics business for another 18 years. He moved to Wilmont Creek after selling that business.
No details are currently available for a funeral service. A Book of Condolences will be available at the Municipal Centre starting on Thursday.
