Ontario Provincial Police are warning the community to beware of scams, especially at this time of year.
A caller reported they were on Highway 62 in the Madoc area last Sunday when they were approached by a male requesting assistance.
He claimed he was trying to get his family back to Toronto to catch a flight and that his credit cards and bank cards had all been frozen and he needed to make some money.
The male then offered to follow the caller to a bank machine so he could sell the caller a ring for $400.
The caller declined the offer although did provide them with a small amount of cash in the off chance that this was not a scam.
OPP say this jewellery scam has circulated the area before and follows a very similar script each time.
With the holiday season approaching, police encourage people to be extra cautious.
