Ontario’s Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, Raymond Cho joined Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp at the Prince Edward County Seniors Fair Thursday to share a funding increase for Seniors Active Living Centres.
The Fall Economic Statement raised base funding for Seniors Active Living Centres (SALCs) from about $50,000 to $55,000 beginning next year.
This increase is on top of the increase in base funding from $42,700 to over $50,000 this past year.
Both the Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association and The City of Belleville Seniors Active Living Centres are eligible for the increase in funding.
This year, each received just over $51,000.
“This past year has seen continued support from our government for our seniors, but this news is even more exciting,” said Allsopp. “Our region has a thriving senior community and now this new funding will see continued investments in programs, services and activities for our older adults and seniors.”
“Seniors helped build Prince Edward County, Bay of Quinte and Ontario,” said Cho. “When we invest in our seniors, we are building a better province for all. These investments help our seniors live happy, healthy, and independent lives.”
Seniors Community Grants will also help several projects in the region:
-The project will support the Friends of the Library groups in growing memberships, developing volunteerism opportunities, creating and delivering seniors’ social and educational programming for each of the six branches.
