The YMCA is in the middle of a massive $9 million fundraising campaign to construct a new facility in the west end of Belleville.
On Tuesday morning, the fundraiser got a major shot in the arm with a $125,000 donation from Bruce and Tanya Mackay and their family, and Mackay Insurance team.
The new gymnasium will be named in the family’s honour.
Bruce Mackay told the audience at Tuesday’s announcement that his business team and others were a major source of support.
” … my business partners, associates from our select referral team, and most importantly my wife and my family. I couldn’t do this without you. I’m giving your inheritance away, so I’m glad you’re here. I’m thankful for your support, thank you everyone.”
Mackay says his faith is God and supporting his fellow sisters and brothers is behind the donation.
“That’s all it’s about is living your faith. If you’re a hypocrite, and not living out your faith and looking out for the least of these, you have to live your faith, my faith is everything, aligning myself with the ‘Y’, aligning myself with other initiatives here in Belleville, just walks in line with that.”
The new Belleville YMCA will be constructed on the current fairgrounds in the west end of Belleville
