Ontario Provincial Police say a traffic stop on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory has resulted in drug trafficking charges against individuals from Napanee and Guelph.
Officers with the OPP’s East Region Community Street Crime Unit were on patrol in Deseronto when they spotted a suspicious vehicle.
Police followed the vehicle to a gas station on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, approached the vehicle and a subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the two people.
More than 28 grams of suspected cocaine and over $3000 in cash were seized from the vehicle.
Twenty-two-year-old Natinael Tesfagabir of Guelph was charged with the following:
- Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime
- Failure to comply with a release order
Tesfagabir was held for a bail hearing.
Sixty-two-year-old Garry Galt of Greater Napanee was charged with the following:
- Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime
- Driving while under suspension
Galt was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on December 12. 2024.
