Quite Conservation continues to make improvements to its Conservation Areas to improve visitor experiences while still protecting the ecologically diverse and sensitive lands.
Two local companies, Alair Homes in Belleville and Drummond BMR of Marmora, have been working with Quinte Conservation for the last three years to build boardwalks in the North Potter’s Creek Conservation Area.
Since 2022, they’ve helped build over 500 feet of raised, permanent boardwalks on the existing trails in the conservation area.
Some areas of the trails are seasonally wet, or very low-lying, meaning they are not accessible for everyone.
Increased traffic through the wet areas can also affect the safety of the wildlife that call the area home.
Alair’s Brendan Troy says they are thankful to be able to give back to their community and help preserve special areas, calling our local conservation areas wonderful places to breathe fresh air, find incredible wildlife and stay active in a beautiful environment.
He notes that at the conclusion of their boardwalk build last year, the Alair Homes crew watched as a Barred Owl glided along the path, perching low and actively hunting while they walked back to their trucks.
The trails can be found in the North Potter’s Creek Conservation Area, located at 935 Moira St. West, or off Highway 2 at the Quinte Conservation headquarters.
