The Lennox and Addington County OPP are investigating an incident involving threats and a weapon in Amherstview.
On Thursday, November 7, 2024 around 6 p.m., two male youths entered a grocery store on Manitou Crescent, displayed what appeared to be a handgun, and made threats. The youths fled outside where they again displayed the handgun, threatening an individual.
The males entered a nearby drug store where they held the handgun in an individual’s face and pulled the trigger. They then began pointing the weapon at other people and pulling the trigger. In each case, there was no actual gunshot.
The youths then fled from the store.
There is also a report that the pair was seen aiming the handgun at a passing car on Sherwood Avenue.
There were no injuries reported.
The descriptions are limited, but the males are described as white and 15-16 years old. One was approximately 5’5″ tall and wearing a bomber-style jacket.
While it appears the handgun was a toy or replica, the OPP are taking this matter very seriously. A replica handgun, used during the commission of an offence, is considered the same as using a real weapon. Those responsible could face criminal charges.
