Construction activity in the City of Belleville was up in October though year-to-date figures are still well behind last year.
In October the city’s Building Department issued 54 permits with a construction value of just over $50 million.
The same month in 2023 saw $39.3 million worth of construction with 39 permits granted.
Permits of note last month include a $20 million apartment building by Aldersgate Homes and and the start of an $18 million expansion at the Kellogg plant on College Street East.
Earlier this year Belleville City Council gave the go-ahead to Aldersgate Homes to build a three-storey 88-unit seniors apartment building at 7 Aldersgate Drive in the west end, part of Aldersgate Village.
This summer Kellogg revealed plans for a major investment in new equipment and technology at its Belleville plant.
The city is still lagging behind last year’s construction figures by more than $85.5 million.
The value of construction in Belleville through the end of October is $129.3 million.
It was $208.9 million after the first 10 months of 2023.
