Young people in Stirling-Rawdon should soon have the chance to learn from and work with the local fire department.
At its next meeting, council is expected to approve a Junior Firefighter Program for youth between the ages of 16 and 18.
The program will offer basic hands-on training and firefighting theory. Those enrolled will not be frontline firefighters but could provide support to the regular volunteers at fire scenes. They would be paid for their efforts.
It’s hoped graduates from the program will provide a steady supply of volunteers for frontline service.
