Despite a recent warning from the fire department about not using fireworks, a Belleville resident has received a ticket for violating a city by-law.
Belleville police received a call about four people setting off fireworks late Saturday night along Sienna Drive.
Officers attended and learned the group – specifically a 23-year-old male – believed it would be a good idea to randomly light off fireworks, despite a city by-law to the contrary.
The male was issued a $240 by-law ticket for ‘detonating fireworks during a prohibited time.’
A city by-law states the public discharge of fireworks is not permitted in Belleville, outside of Victoria Day or Canada Day, without express written consent from the fire chief.
