The City of Belleville’s High School Pass Program is ready to go, allowing the city’s high school students to use Belleville Transit for free.
General Manager of Transportation and Operations, Joe Reid says the purpose of the program is to increase awareness of the transit service and increase ridership in future years.
He adds it’s also a great way for students to get around the city and have some independence, especially students who may have after school jobs or live in rural areas.
Belleville Transit has been in communication with both Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board & Algonquin and Lakeshore District School Board as they work out the logistics to get passes to every high school student in the city.
Until the electronic passes are ready, high school students can show their student card when they get on the bus to ride for free.
