The Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Wellington Dukes 5-3 on Friday night.
Zach Mascard and Jared McNeil scored for the Dukes. Matthew Souliere, Devin Mauro, and Cooper Matthews scored for the Golden Hawks. Matthew Souliere earned a hat trick during the game.
Both teams came out swinging in an action-packed first period. The Dukes took the first goal in under five minutes before the Golden Hawks came back to score three back-to-back-to-back goals, including Souliere’s first two of the night. The Dukes finished the period with a second goal, making the score 3-2 going into the second frame.
In the second, the Dukes tied the score, but the Golden Hawks took another goal of their own to reclaim their lead. In the third, the Golden Hawks extended their lead with Souliere’s final goal of the night, finding the back of the net with less than 10 seconds on the clock.
The Golden Hawks will be back in action on Sunday to face the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. The Dukes face the Aurora Tigers on Saturday.
