The Belleville Senators edged the Utica Comets 5-4 to win their home opener at CAA Arena on Saturday night.
Zack Ostapchuk, Jeremy Davies, Cole Reinhardt, Donovan Sebrango and Angus Crookshank scored for the Senators.
The Senators came out swinging with three unanswered goals in the first period. The Senators grabbed another goal in the second, before the Comets got on the board with their first two of the night. Early in the third, the Senators grabbed their fifth goal, before the Comets rallied to take two more of their own. Despite the late push, the Comets couldn’t catch up, and the Senators took the win.
Belleville Sens Forward Angus Crookshank was pleased to get his first goal of the season.
“It was nice,” said Crookshank. “I’ve had a lot of chances over the last three games, so it’s been a little irritating not to see one go in, but normally it has to be one you whack away four or five times and it goes in. Happy to be on the board and glad the boys were able to win.”
The Sens are back in action on Sunday, to face the Syracuse Crunch. The puck drops at 3 p.m.
