The Special Investigations Unit has concluded their investigaton into the death of a man in Tyendinaga Territory earlier this year.
On June 15, a 66-year-old man shot himself while officers from the OPP were conducting a wellness check. Officers had arrived at the man’s home after being advised by a friend of the man that he was suicidal and had access to guns.
Before police could make contact with the man, they heard a gunshot, and later found the man with a gunshot wound to the head and a rifle laying nearby.
The SIU investigated due to a death occurring during a police action. They found there were no grounds to charge any of the responding officers with any crime.
