A new roof at the Madoc & District Recreation Centre will extend the life of the Arena by an estimated 15 years.
The renovation was made possible with a $150,000 capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
On Saturday, Hastings Lennox & Addington MPP Ric Bresee met with representatives of the Township of Madoc and Municipality of Centre Hastings, who jointly operate the facility, to celebrate the work.
“Small municipal arenas are the beating heart of Rural Ontario, they bring communities together for sports, recreation, and social events like nothing else can,” said Bresee. “I am thrilled to see the Ontario government show this support for Madoc Township, and help our community
thrive.”
The grant was awarded to the Township of Madoc in November 2022.
The funds were used to install a sealing membrane over the existing roof at the arena to increase the useful life of the facility for users and to meet public demand for recreational opportunities in the rural community.
“The impact of this Ontario grant is greatly appreciated,” said Amy Beaton, councillor for the Township of Madoc. “This grant has allowed needed improvements to be made at this facility. The Madoc & District Recreation Centre is one of the many services that the Township of Madoc and Municipality of Centre Hastings share to provide services to the greater community.”
Tom Deline, mayor for the Municipality of Centre Hastings added, “This grant allows both municipalities to continue to provide the arena for years to come. This project is the outcome of both municipalities coming together to support the needs of the greater community. We are thankful for our neighbours and the Ontario government for their support.”
