It has been more than a week since the Bay of Quinte riding went to the pools in the provincial by-election.
Quinte News dug into the numbers to see where campaigns were won and lost.
There were about 37,000 votes cast and of them, about 35,000 went to the big three parties. The Ontario New Democrats, the Ontario Liberal Party, and the PC Party of Ontario took about 95 per cent of the votes cast.
For the sake of this report, we only included the big three.
HOW DID BELLEVILLE VOTE?
The Friendly City saw the closest race of the three municipalities.
Liberal Sean Kelly won Belleville, by less than 100 votes over Tyler Allsopp. He grabbed over 5,000 of votes, more than 40 per cent of his total, which was 12,428. Kelly won the most polls as well.
Allsopp did well with over 5,000 votes.
The NDP’s Amanda Robertson did very well. Of the more than 8,600 votes that were cast for her in the election, close to 4,000 of them came in Belleville. Forty-six per cent of her total votes came from Belleville residents. She also took several polls.
HOW DID PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY VOTE?
Sean Kelly also took the County of Prince Edward. He garnered more than 3,500 votes and beat Tyler Allsopp by more than 300 votes. Twenty-eight per cent of Kelly’s vote was in Prince Edward.
Allsopp’s worst showing was in The County, where he picked up less than a quarter of his votes.
Robertson was around the 2,300 vote mark.
HOW DID QUINTE WEST VOTE?
The election was won in the City of Quinte West. Tyler Allsopp took almost every poll. He got close to 50 per cent of the votes cast there, and won by more than 2,200 votes. Allsopp’s total votes, about 40 per cent, came from Quinte West.
THE OTHER PARTIES
There was a big distance between Amanda Robertson in third and the rest of the candidates. Well under 2,000 votes were cast for the Ontario Green Party, the Libertarians, New Blue, and the Independent candidate. Of those votes more than 67 per cent went to Lori Borthwick (Green).
