Voters in Bay of Quinte riding are heading to the polls today to decide who will represent the riding in the provincial legislature.
It’s a by-election with a quick turnaround, as it takes place just one month after popular Progressive Conservative cabinet minister Todd Smith resigned the seat to take a position with Candu Energy.
Liberal candidate Sean Kelly says voters want a change and many have the same top issue.
“Number one is health care. This morning I was in a retirement area, Kenron Estates, and it seemed like every second or third door I was knocking on they don’t have a family doctor, they don’t have a nurse practitioner.”
The top two contenders appear to be Progressive Conservative candidate Tyler Allsopp and Liberal candidate Sean Kelly, both Belleville city councillors.
But NDP candidate Amanda Robertson says she’s feeling momentum and her party finished second to Smith in the 2022 provincial election.
“From our perspective we’re feeling very positive, we’re feeling like there is a lot of support for us and for our platform in the Bay of Quinte.”
The PCs did not make candidate Tyler Allsopp available for an interview with the Canadian Press.
