The local campaign for the Bay of Quinte NDP got a shot in the arm over the weekend.
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation District 29 (Hastings-Prince Edward County) endorsed candidate Amanda Robertson Sunday.
Local President Andrew Wachner held a gathering outside Trenton High School, where he was joined by Robertson, NDP Marit Stiles, and supporters.
Wachner tells Quinte News about the endorsement.
“So Amanda has experience with the school board so she understands locally the education issues that we have. She knows that we have a school board locally that’s working very hard to do the best thing they can for the students that we have, but the resources just aren’t there.”
Amanda Robertson is the vice chair of the Hastings Prince Edward School Board (currently on leave for the by-election).
She says she is humbled by the OSSTF support.
“It’s really motivating for me as a candidate to have their backing, because I know we are a party that was born out of labour and out of workers and being that voice for workers. So to have those frontline workers really rally behind is super meaningful.”

Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles says they are getting a large volunteer base and getting a great response at the doors.
On Sunday she said it is because people want to see change.
“Card-carrying Conservatives are telling us that they don’t feel like they’ve been listened to.”
Stiles added that the Bay of Quinte has never seen a majority of voters support the NDP, but they are seeing a change.
“So for us, having a good showing here, winning here would be a massive signal to Ontario that we are set and we can actually defeat this government.”
On Monday morning at 10 a.m., the Leader of the Opposition will join Robertson, and members of OSSTF to discuss education.
The media conference is at Centennial Secondary School.
