It is a day of celebration for those on both sides of the Bay of Quinte.
Wednesday morning, dignitaries gathered at the foot of the Skyway Bridge to announce the completion of the rehabilitation work.
Member of Provincial Parliament for Hastings-Lennox and Addington Ric Bresee was on hand for the ribbon cutting.
He tells Quinte News it is not just a big day for those in Deseronto, Tyendinaga, and Prince Edward County, but the hundreds of thousands who visit the area annually.
“An incredibly important corridor for the tourism industry, but for a number of sectors and for all the residents certainly.”
Bresee says it is critical to attack these projects as efficiently as possible due to the high cost of infrastructure work.
“With the inflationary factors that are in place today, it is really important to get these things done. Previous times we’ve spent a lot of time dithering. It was very important for the community and for the connection for Prince Edward County and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.”
He describes some of the work that was done.
“It’s a $63 million rehabilitation project, that included a new bridge deck, repairs and reconstruction of the bridge supports and widening of the bridge shoulders.”
