Several sources to Quinte News indicate that Belleville City Councillor Tyler Allsopp will be the Bay of Quinte riding Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario Candidate.
A candidate was required after long-time MPP Todd Smith resigned on Friday.
Allsopp, who turns 31 later this year, is a Ward 1 Councillor that has been serving on municipal council since 2021 and is also chair of the Belleville Police Services Board.
Allsopp was a long-time owner of Doug’s Bicycle in Belleville, which he recently sold.
The PC Party of Ontario has not confirmed Allsopp as a candidate.
Political parties have two options for naming a candidate. They can either hold a party membership election or the candidate can be named by the party.
We have been told by one source that a by-election could be called as soon as next month, however, that has not been confirmed.
We expect more details to be released in the coming days.
If a municipal council seat becomes vacant, council must declare the council seat vacant at its next meeting.
