The Province of Ontario has awarded the contract for the new hospital build in Picton.
The new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital will be constructed by M. Sullivan and Son Limited.
They are a construction company with officers in Ottawa and Kingston.
Quinte Health CEO Stacey Daub says it is the culmination of hard work, passion, generosity and tenacity that has brought us to this milestone.

Daub added that she is grateful to the project partners (PECMH Foundation, PECMH Auxiliary, Prince Edward Family Health Team and the Prince Edward County municipality) and to the donors who have contributed to the construction cost.
“The community has been steadfast in their support for the hospital. It all started back in early 2000’s, when that community really understood that they needed a new hospital and started all kinds of work.”

The cost of the project is projected to be over $100-million, with the province paying about 90-percent of the cost.
The new county hospital is said to be leading edge, designed to meet the current and future needs of the local community, with improved equipment and facilities.
There will be a 24-hour emergency department, a helipad, a procedural suite, a dialysis unit and more.
Construction is expected to begin this month.
“I don’t think there’s a community group in Prince Edward County that hasn’t in one way or another, stepped up to raise funds, whether it be a few thousand dollars, to several million dollars, to support the new hospital. This really has been a galvanizing effort.”
