The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation hosted the 40th anniversary of the Phil Panelas Annual BBQ on Thursday.
The event, held in the Phil Panelas Courtyard at Trenton Memorial Hospital, welcomed the community to honour the healthcare professionals and volunteers who serve at the hospital.
The menu featured authentic Greek cuisine, including souvlaki, hamburgers, Greek salad, spanakopita, and Phil’s famous rice pudding.
“People often ask why we hold a BBQ every year. My dad, Phil Panelas, hosted and donated a BBQ annually at the hospital to appreciate the
continuous hard work of doctors, nurses, first responders, and all hospital staff and volunteers,” Chrissie Panelas, daughter of the late Phil Panelas, said in a release.
“He was deeply proud to walk the hallways of Trenton Memorial Hospital, where he was actively involved for over 60 years, serving as Chairman of the Foundation for 27 years. I know he would have been very proud of yesterday’s event, and I could feel him cheering ‘OPA! OPA! OPA!’ with us. This event truly is a team effort, and I extend a special thanks to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation staff, the volunteers, the Rotary Club of Trenton, and OurTMH for their generous support. Until next year… OPA!”
