The Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan (BQRAP) is conducting a Fish Consumption Survey as it continues to work towards having the bay’s Area of Concern designation removed.
During the past 30-plus years, there have been significant improvements to water quality and reductions in industrial contamination in the Bay of Quinte and today, area residents and visitors can enjoy catching and eating fish from the Bay of Quinte.
The environmental challenge that addresses fish consumption in the bay is in the final phases of data assessment with part of that assessment involving public consumption preferences.
The survey will collect data on what varieties of fish people catch and eat from the Bay of Quinte.
BQRAP notes that, depending on the species, size, and number of fish eaten there may be a risk of consuming contaminants.
The Guide to Eating Ontario Fish provides information on which fish are best to consume and tips on properly preparing them for eating.
The guide identifies the types and amounts of fish that are safe to eat from more than 2,600 fishing locations in Ontario.
People who complete the Fish Consumption Survey will be entered into a draw for a $100 Canadian Tire gift card.
