Belleville police responded to 82 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on June 3, 2024 to 5 a.m. on June 4, 2024.
Traffic stop leads to multiple driving offences
On June 3, 2024 at 4 p.m., Belleville police received a call regarding a possible impaired driver travelling south on Hwy 62 towards Belleville. Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver. Police believed that the driver was impaired from the consumption of alcohol. The driver was arrested and returned to the Belleville Police Service for further investigation. Police also learned that the driver was prohibited from driving in Canada, was a suspended driver under the Highway Traffic Act and was breaching his probation. As a result of the investigation, the 36-year-old male driver from Madoc was charged with impaired driving, over 80, driving while prohibited, breach of probation and driving while suspended under the Highway Traffic Act. He was held for a bail hearing.
Arrested on Warrant
On June 4, 2024 at 2 a.m., Belleville police responded to a disturbance call to a residence in the city’s east end. While conducting their investigation, police spoke to one of the involved parties and learned that she was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for assault causing bodily harm. As a result, 35-year-old Jana McClelland of Belleville was arrested and later released on an undertaking with a court date in July.
Domestic Assault
On June 3, 2024 at 12:33 p.m., Belleville police responded to a residence in the city’s east end regarding a domestic dispute. Upon their arrival, police spoke to the female involved and learned that she had been physically assaulter by her former boyfriend. As a result, a 32-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with assault. He was released on an undertaking with a court date in July. The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
