It was announced that over $48,000 was raised by the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie fundraising campaign for the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
A cheque presentation was made outside Tim Hortons on Division Street in Trenton on Tuesday.
Money raised goes towards the purchase of a portable ultrasound machine at Trenton Memorial Hospital.
“It will primarily be used in the ER at Trenton Memorial Hospital, which we’re seeing large numbers of people come through,” Director of Development for TMHF, Lindsay Butcher Dodds, tells media.
“So we’re very excited to help enhance patient care, and it’s going to be great for the community.”
Fundraising from the campaign nearly pays off the cost for the portable ultrasound machine.
The campaign has been supporting the hospital for the last four years.
Owner Josephine Robertson explained the reasoning for continuing to support the hospital foundation.
“We picked the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation for the reason that everybody gives back to the community. Everybody’s buying a cookie,” Robertson explained.
“It’s our way to give back, to support the hospital, and hopefully it will help some people in the emergency with the equipment that we’ve purchased in the last four years.”
Owner Jamie Smid says the campaign continues to grow each year.
“It was very strong last year and this year. The program continues to grow and grow and grow,” Smid tells media.
“We’re seeing the program over two times a year and that helps grow the program overall as well, and then we can help get funds to more charities and causes. So that’s a program that just keeps growing, and everybody gets behind it.”
