The Cleveland Monsters defeated the Belleville Senators 3-1 on Friday night, ending the Senators’ Calder Cup playoff run.
Stephen Halliday scored for the Senators.
The Monsters opened the game with an early first period goal before the Senators came back and evened it out before the end of the frame. Late in the second, the Monsters pulled ahead again, and held on to their lead with a third and final unanswered goal in the third to win the game.
Belleville Senators head coach Dave Bell said the team improved a lot over the course of the season.
“I thought our guys played extremely well and I’ve got to give their team a lot of credit as well,” said Coach Bell. “They played extremely hard, extremely physical and Jet Greaves is an unbelievable goaltender. Our guys weren’t bad, he was just really good. Our guys gave it everything they had, they played their best and it just wasn’t there for us.”
This win gives the Monsters the best-of-five series 3-1, and sees them advance to the AHL North finals.
This also ends the season for the Belleville Senators, who return to Belleville on Saturday.
