The City of Belleville has announced that former mayor Shirley Langer has passed away.
Langer served as mayor of Belleville from 1991 to 1994 and was known for being a strong advocate for environmentalism.
She was also known for focusing on issues of development as well as supporting the arts.
In 2022, the Shirley Langer Trail opened to the public with the trail specifically designed to limit light pollution to ecosystem diversity and wildlife.
Flags at City Hall, Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre and Fire Station #1 have been lowered until further notice in her honour.
