The Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS) says it has received $1.3 million from Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development that it says will help address an imminent labour shortage facing municipal public works departments across the province.
The announcement was made by Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development David Piccini at AORS’s Annual General Meeting at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.
Funding was secured from the Ministry’s Skills Development Fund.
In a press release, the AORS says the funding will enable the development and implementation of a specialized Municipal Equipment Operator course.
“This investment marks a turning point for AORS and underscores our commitment to providing innovative solutions to the challenges facing our industry,” said president of AORS and the City of Belleville’s Director of Transportation & Operations Joe Reid in a press release.
“With this funding, we have the unique opportunity to expand our offerings and support the next generation of municipal workers as they embark on fulfilling careers in public service.”
