The Belleville Senators edged the Laval Rocket 2-1 at Place Bell on Saturday night to end their regular season play.
This victory gives the Senators a fourth place finish in the AHL North Division.
Wyatt Bongiovanni, and Tarun Fizer scored for the Senators.
The game got off to a slow start, with Laval dominating the first frame with four times as many shots on net as the Senators, but only one goal to show for it.
The teams settled into a deadlocked second period with neither team scoring, leaving Laval with a slim lead.
In the third frame, the Sens struck back, with a rapid fire pair of goals early in the period, to take the lead from the Rocket. The Senators held on to the lead for the rest of the period and took home the win.
Belleville Sens Head Coach Dave Bell said that it was a rough season, and a rough final game, but the team did well.
“Obviously, it wasn’t the start we needed, but that’s tricky coming off an extremely emotionally high win the night before and getting in here late. But Leevi Merilainen kept us in it, we found some legs, found some structure and had a big third period.”
The Senators will begin their playoff run against the Toronto Marlies, with home ice advantage, on Wednesday.
