The mayor of Belleville says he’s had positive discussions with both the Prime Minister and Premier about the serious illegal drug problems in the city.
Neil Ellis spoke to both leaders Friday, as well as local MPP Todd Smith.
Meanwhile, at a press conference in King City Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government would be working with the provinces to build more treatment centres as the drug problem has become deadly not only in big cities but in smaller communities like Belleville as well.
Premier Doug Ford said his heart goes out to the families affected and says he’s always believed in a multi-pronged approach to the problem including going after the drug dealers. Ford said he wants more partnerships with the federal government to build more treatment centres.
Mayor Ellis will be updating the public on the drug crisis Monday morning at 10 o’clock from City Hall.
The event will be livestreamed here.
