The owners of the last Sam the Record Man store in the country, located in the Quinte Mall, have announced they are retiring.
In a Facebook post, the store’s owners say that after 45 years they’re retiring and a retirement sale is now underway.
The owner tells Quinte News that the family will be exploring options to keep the iconic store running as they head into retirement.
An iconic music store chain, Sam the Record Man first opened 65 years ago in 1959 on Toronto’s Yonge Street.
In 1982, the chain had grown to 140 stores.
CORRECTION: A previous version of the article said that the store was closing. The owner has since contacted Quinte News stating that they are exploring options to keep the store running while they go into retirement.
