The Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Wellington Dukes 4-1 on Friday night at the Dunc, before a sold-out crowd of 1200 fans.
Corbin Roach, Adam O’Marra, Taeo Artichuk, and David Fournier scored for the Golden Hawks while Ryan Schaap grabbed a goal for the Dukes.
The Golden Hawks got off to a strong start with two goals in the first period, gaining an early lead. The Golden Hawks grabbed two more in the second, before the Dukes got on the board with their first and only goal late in the frame. Neither team was able to get past the goalkeepers in the final period, giving the win to the Golden Hawks.
The Golden Hawks also honoured their retiring former director of hockey operations, John McDonald during a pre-game ceremony. McDonald has held several roles with the Golden Hawks including coach and general manager during his career.
The Golden Hawks and the Dukes are back in action on Sunday when the Golden Hawks travel to face the North York Rangers and the Dukes host the Haliburton Huskies, both games go at 2:30.
