A major fire on Treasure Cove Road in Prince Edward County has destroyed a house and two cottages, causing over $3 million in damages.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue crews from Picton, Bloomfield and Milford responded to the fire at close to 1:30 on Friday afternoon, with fire crews from Wellington, Demorestville and Rossmore put on standby.
The fire, which started in a house, was spread to two cottages by high winds. Two structures were already on fire when fire crews arrived on the scene, with the fire spreading to the third quickly. Several smaller outbuildings also caught fire.
Firefighting and water tanker operations were impeded by the site’s only access being a narrow private laneway.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
