Quinte News continues to tee up the year ahead.
We spoke with MP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, Phillip Lawrence, and he indicated that infrastructure is top of mind
“In Campbellford they have the rec centre which is starting to come up, continued infrastructure in Brighton as well, there’s a number of infrastructure. Unfortunately, the infrastructure really across Canada, there’s a significant deficit.”
He says housing prices cause a lot of that for in the riding and nationally.
“It will be an all hands on deck solution where we have the private sector enabled to build houses quickly, with red tape cut, and a willing partner in the government to make sure that we can bridge that gap for Canadians.”
Lawrence pointed out the high rise of criminal activity and the issue with an individual doing something illegal, and getting released and out on the street immediately.
On the rural side, he says there is a disproportionate hit from the carbon tax to those living outside big cities.
“Some farmers will pay tens of thousands of dollars in carbon tax and the measly amount of rebate, it might cut it in Toronto in you live in a condo while taking the subway. If you live in Warkworth, or Campbellford, or Cramahe and you’ve got to drive a pickup truck and heat your home with fossil fuels, there’s no way you’re getting anywhere near recovery back.”
