Despite having almost disappeared from most media recently because of coverage of the Isreal-Hamas war in the middle east, the war in Ukraine continues and so do fundraising efforts by the local Humanity for a Free Ukraine group.
Tuesday at The Lark Restaurant in downtown Belleville the group hosted a Perogie Pop-up event.
One of the organizers Myroslava Symonenko says there were close to 150 orders for the handmade perogies, both potato and blueberry.
Symonenko says the hundreds of dollars raised will help outfit a Ukrainian soldier to return to the battlefield after recovering from his second wartime injury.
“Things like tactical gloves, tactical backpacks, eye wear, protective headphones, things like that.”
Since the Ukraine-Russia conflict began in February of last year, Humanity for a Free Ukraine has received tons of clothing, equipment and medical supplies and thousands of dollars in cash donations from Quinte region residents.
