Quinte West City Council heard a delegation from members of 8 Wing/CFB Trenton regarding the 2024 Quinte International Air Show at its council meeting on Wednesday.
Jacqueline St.Pierre, Manager of Business Development at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, Renee Hansen, Wing Chief Warrant Officer at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, a producer of the show, retired Lt. Col. Kevin Tromp, and 8 Wing/CFB Trenton Honorary Colonel Julie Lange spoke during the delegation.
The air show is scheduled to take place on June 29 and 30, 2024 at CFB Trenton.
The event is coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Lt. Col. Tromp says while he can’t reveal all the performers just yet, he did give a sneak peek on what to expect.
“I can tell you that in all likelihood we’re going to have a stealth fighter and probably a second air demonstration team as highlights of the air show. It’s going to be every bit as spectacular as 2016 and probably even more.”
Organizers say they are looking to make the event as affordable as possible.
“The event sale tickets are going to be an adult ticket would be $10 and a family of five will be $35 plus fees and taxes. This is cheaper than 2016,” Lt. Col. Tromp says.
“I think with a ticket price like that, I honestly think you’re going to see a lot of people with your show.”
Manager of Business Development at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, Jacqueline St.Pierre, expanded on how much tickets would cost.
“Six and under is free. Seven to 17 is $8 along with current serving military, the veterans and seniors. Folks joining us in uniform will not pay,” she told council.
The group is predicting 120,000 people will be in attendance at the air show over two days.
Organizers asked the City of Quinte West to sponsor the event under its community sponsorship package, totalling $25,000.
Mayor Jim Harrison says the city is currently working on the budget but said, “We’ll certainly do our part.”
