An RCAF Major is facing multiple firearms charges following the seizure of several prohibited weapons that were shipped through CFB Trenton.
The Canada Border Services Agency reports Major Kendrick Barling returned to Canada in August after a five-year posting in the United States.
His household goods were shipped through CFB Trenton where numerous undeclared firearms were discovered hidden throughout the shipment.
Last month, the CBSA’s Ontario Firearms Smuggling Enforcement Team executed search warrants at residences in Kingston and Petawawa, seizing:
- seven handguns
- 10 rifles (including assault rifles)
- two shotguns
- approximately 45,000 rounds of ammunition of varying calibres
- hundreds of magazines including AR-15 over-capacity magazines
Multiple firearms have duplicate serial numbers.
As a result Major Kendrick Barling has been charged by the CBSA with the following offences:
- Smuggle Goods into Canada x 5
- Making False Statements x 2
- Import Goods without a Permit x 2
- Importing a Firearm Knowing it is Unauthorized x 9
- Unauthorized Importing of a Firearm x 9
- Contravention of Transportation Regulations x 2
The accused is next scheduled to appear in court on December 22.
