Former Lanark Frontenac Kingston MPP Randy Hillier is trying for a second time to have his court case involving Freedom Convoy charges moved away from Ottawa.
According to Global News on Tuesday, Hillier’s lawyer said Ottawa residents’ opposition to the weeks long protests would make it impossible to to select a fair jury.
Crown prosecutors maintain there are legal safeguards in place to ensure an impartial jury and that everyone in Canada had an opinion on the protests.
Hillier is facing a number of charges connected to the convoy, including assaulting a peace officer, and criminal mischief.
He’d previously asked to have his case heard outside of Ottawa but was turned down by a Superior Court Justice.
