The long awaited Amazon facility that’s been constructed in Belleville’s Industrial Park will soon be operational.
The one million square foot distribution and logistics centre at 640 College Street East opens October 1.
YGK1 will be an Amazon XL facility where employees pick, pack, and ship customer orders for extra-large products, such as furniture and exercise equipment.
Amazon tells Quinte News the centre is starting out with approximately 200 full-time jobs with more seasonal roles expected to be added throughout the year.
Construction on the facility began in July 2022.
Rumours swirled for months that the facility under construction was an Amazon warehouse with Mayor Neil Ellis finally confirming the news in April at the Belleville Chamber of Commerce Annual Mayor’s Breakfast.
A release from Amazon states regular full-time employees at Amazon receive competitive wages as well as medical, vision, and dental coverage and a group RRSP plan.
Amazon also provides employees with access to education and skills training to grow their careers.
Through Amazon’s upskilling program Career Choice, the company will pre-pay up to 95 per cent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.
